Material-aware terrain behavior with visual wheel sink, suspension and tire-collider adjustments, handling penalties, presets, and debugging tools.
Vehicle Terrain
Description
Make the surface beneath a vehicle matter. Vehicle Terrain samples road and off-road materials around each wheel, then visually settles vehicles into soft ground by adjusting suspension and tire colliders.
Configurable traction, speed, drive-force, and inertia penalties create distinct behavior across sand, mud, snow, gravel, grass, and other surfaces. Wheel types, vehicle classes, speed scaling, and smooth transitions keep the effects believable without abrupt handling changes.
Run it independently with zyke_lib, choose or customize terrain presets, and use the included debugging tools to inspect materials and tune behavior. When paired with Realistic Vehicles, both resources coordinate handling changes while Vehicle Terrain leaves saved vehicle damage ownership untouched.
Key Features
Material-Aware Sampling
Detect road and off-road materials around each wheel.
Visual Terrain Sink
Settle wheels naturally into sand, mud, snow, gravel, and grass.
Suspension And Collider Tuning
Adjust suspension and tire colliders to match the active surface.
Surface Handling Penalties
Apply configurable traction, speed, drive-force, and inertia changes.
Wheel-Type Behavior
Make wheel types and vehicle classes react differently to terrain.
Presets And Debug Tools
Start from terrain presets and inspect materials while tuning.
Detailed Features
Per-Wheel Material Sampling
Raycasts around each wheel and uses material hashes and ground normals to determine the active road or off-road surface.
Configurable Surface Depths
Maps hard roads, dirt, grass, gravel, sand, mud, marsh, snow, ice, and other materials to labels and configurable sink depths.
Visual Wheel Sink
Lowers wheels into soft terrain so vehicles visually settle into the surface instead of floating above it.
Suspension And Tire Colliders
Adjusts suspension behavior and tire collider size to support convincing soft-surface contact.
Configurable Handling Penalties
Can reduce drive force, maximum flat velocity, drive inertia, and traction while adding controllable traction loss.
Wheel-Type Terrain Tradeoffs
Wheel-type multipliers let off-road and SUV setups resist soft ground while street-focused and open-wheel setups can be affected more.
Vehicle-Class Multipliers
Tune terrain effects independently for motorcycles, off-road vehicles, industrial vehicles, commercial vehicles, and other classes.
Road-Surface Wheel Penalties
Optionally applies handling-only tradeoffs to selected wheel types on hard road surfaces at higher speeds.
Speed-Based Scaling
Ramps terrain effects in, fades them at configured speeds, and supports rolling penalties over soft surfaces.
Smooth Terrain Transitions
Configurable enter and exit rates blend visual sink and handling changes instead of applying them abruptly.
Terrain Presets
Provides preset starting points that can be selected and customized for the server's preferred terrain behavior.
Terrain Debugging Tools
Inspect detected materials, wheel types, forced sink behavior, and reset terrain state while configuring the resource.
Realistic Vehicles Coordination
Coordinates handling changes with Realistic Vehicles without taking ownership of saved deformation or vehicle damage data.
